The Alpha Experience

The next Alpha course will begin again at the Church of the Ascension in May 2008.
The first meeting, an 'open' evening, is on May 8th at 7.15pm in the Church Hall.
Get an idea (no obligation) of what the course involves and watch the first video in the series, which is entitled 'Christianity -boring, irrelevant, untrue'.
A buffet meal is provided - why not invite a friend?

Can the stories of Jesus be trusted?
Why did Jesus die?
What does it mean to follow Jesus?
What is prayer?
Does Jesus heal today?
What of the Holy Spirit?
What is the Church for?

Over a period of 10 weeks, the course enables participants to consider various aspects of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment.
Each session begins with a light meal. Then participants watch a video in which Nicky Gumbel (from Holy Trinity, Brompton) talks about the Christian faith. Finally there is opportunity to discuss the video in a small group.

The course does not assume that all participants agree with the Christian faith and so it gives all - whatever view one has - a chance to think together about what the Christian faith has to offer and whether its claims are valid.

There are usually two weekly sessions, one on an afternoon and one in the evening, each lasting about 2 hours. These are held in the church hall at the Church of the Ascension and are open to any who want to discover more about the course.
If you have young children, you are welcome to bring them with you - particularly to the afternoon session - and we will try to offer support in caring for them in the hall through the session.
